Airbus A380

La Compagnie

Seating configuration: 1-2-1 (each passenger has direct aisle access).

Seat type: Lie-flat beds.

Features: The main feature of the double-deck A380 is the legendary Onboard Lounge in the aft section of the upper deck, where you can socialize with other passengers and order drinks. Seats are also equipped with personal minibars.

Boeing 777

La Compagnie

Seating configuration: Most classic aircraft use the outdated 2-3-2 configuration. This means that window and middle-row passengers don’t have direct access to the aisle (some have to step over their neighbors).

Seat type: Most aircraft have angle-flat seats (which recline at a slight angle, not fully flat), although some updated aircraft have full lie-flat seats.

A significant exception (Refit): Emirates is actively updating its Boeing 777 fleet—its upgraded aircraft feature a modern 1-2-1 configuration with full beds and new Safran seats, but the older 2-3-2 configuration is still very common. There is no bar lounge like on the A380.

Airbus A350

Seating layout: Modern 1-2-1 layout (direct aisle access for everyone).

Type of seats: Newest seats (so-called “S Lounge seats”, inspired by the design of the Mercedes S-class). Folds out into a completely horizontal bed.

Features: The most technologically advanced business class in the fleet. The seats are equipped with wireless charging, built-in lighting controls, a personal minibar and huge 4K screens with Bluetooth support.

I’d like to share my personal experience, as it’s more useful than advertising copy. Emirates is one of my favorite airlines in business class because it’s like royalty.

I’ll be honest, flying from North America to the Middle East or Asia is a colossal marathon in the sky. Let’s not even mention the hell of economy class, where you need to sleep in a hotel for a few days after landing to recuperate.

When I fly business class on Emirates, I happily plop down into a luxurious seat that transforms into a bed, and I breathe a sigh of relief. Especially on the legendary double-deck Airbus A380. But it all starts not in the sky, but in the little details: no endless lines, priority boarding makes you feel like a prince or princess. That’s probably the best description of Emirates: you’re not on a plane, you’re in a flying palace, where everything is royal. This is probably the best advertisement for Emirates. It’s oriental luxury and an oriental fairytale. That’s why I always experience pure joy when I fly Emirates.

The famous inflight lounge in the aft section of the A380’s upper deck completely changes the perception of travel time. The ability to stand at 33,000 feet, stroll around the cabin, order a cocktail at the bar, and chat with other passengers is a luxury you quickly become accustomed to.
Add to this the exquisite presentation of dishes by the chefs, more reminiscent of dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant, and the gigantic ICE multimedia system with thousands of films and TV series. The result is not just a tiring flight, but a vibrant experience that sets the tone for the entire journey.

FAQ

What is it like to fly in Emirates Business Class on long-haul flights?
Personal experience and ergonomics: Forget cramped, soul-crushing rows and waking up feeling like a human pretzel. The 180-degree fully flat bed setup, complete with thick down duvets, ergonomic pillows, and plush mattress pads, actually lets you get solid rest at 10,000 meters. Privacy & Features: Modern birds like the Airbus A350 and refitted Boeing 777s give you personal sliding doors to completely shut out the aisle chaos, transforming your seat into a private office. And let's not forget the legendary onboard lounge bar on the A380 because stretching your legs and grabbing a proper cocktail at 35,000 feet completely changes the game.
Catering & dining: Forget the mystery plastic trays of standard commercial flights. Emirates serves multi-course menus crafted by world-class chefs, plated on fine Royal Doulton bone china using proper Robert Welch cutlery. Pair that with top-tier wines, vintage champagnes, and an on-demand dining concept that lets you eat whenever your body clock dictates, rather than following a rigid airline schedule.
Food Service: The menu is developed by renowned French chefs, and dishes are served on designer china with high-quality cutlery, breaking the stereotype of standard "airplane" food. Wine List: The French approach to gastronomy is highlighted by elite wines and champagnes, selected by leading sommeliers worldwide, taking into account the unique taste sensations at high altitude.
Baggage allowance: No need to pack light or stress over rigid overhead locker wars. You get a generous checked baggage allowance of up to 40 kg (88 lbs), plus two carry-on pieces (a briefcase and a garment bag or handbag), giving you plenty of freedom to haul everything you need across international time zones.
